SPECIALTY CAMP COUNSELORS

Summer Camp Jobs outdoor adventure

The Outdoor Adventure positions are a haven for those who relish the great outdoors. Many of the camps listed on this site are located in the heart of different mountain ranges which include some of the most beautiful hiking country in the Northeastern U.S. Hiking is a major component of the outdoor adventure program as each camper will hike once a week and have the opportunity to participate in a number of overnight adventures throughout the summer. As an outdoor adventure specialist you would be expected to lead hikes six days a week. Day hikes range from easy, low altitude 5 mile hikes to more rigorous 10 mile, high altitude hikes. Each day brings a different age of hiker with different hiking abilities. You would also be expected to participate in a number of different 2 to 5 night overnight hikes. These trips are all age and level appropriate. Your responsibilities on the day hikes is to lead the hikes, motivate campers and staff during the hike and organize and pack lunch and snacks. During day hikes you would be responsible for 30 campers and 6 staff members. Your responsibility as an overnight leader would be to plan and pack for the overnight trip, meet with the campers and staff before the trip leaves camp and during the trip motivate and lead the campers and staff.

Safety is our number one concern on our hikes and overnights, but second to this is enjoying the beautiful views and the challenge of reaching a mountain peak. The job of our outdoor adventure specialist is exciting and intense. All outdoor adventure specialists will be required to attend a five day mountain leadership school. During this five day course you will become certified in Wilderness First Aid and learn all necessary rescuing techniques.

Our outdoor adventure program's scope and intensity will provide you with the opportunity to push yourself and our campers to new limits. This is a position of great responsibility and freedom and requires all staff to be in top physical condition.
