SPECIALTY CAMP COUNSELORS

equestrian

Safety, fun and skill development are major goals established for our riders.
Dressage is the foundation for all instruction. We use the standards of the U.S. Pony Club and
British Horse Society as the basis of our program. Stable management is an important part of the
Equestrian staff's responsibilities as well as a component of the instructional program.
Campers are taught an appreciation for the necessary care, health issues and anatomy of horses.
All riders enjoy small group instruction, allowing for individual attention. There may be 5 or 6
activity periods a day. Skills are assessed and positively reinforced with appropriate on-going
critiques. Instructors are sensitive to individuals at all skill levels from beginners to experienced
riders. Instruction is ring-based. Some camps have facilities for trail rides as well. Staff is
expected to be competent, experienced riders with a patience and willingness to teach.
